Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact: HD and beyond even underwater

Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact

Sony has unveiled two new Xperia Z series smartphones: the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

Introduced at the IFA 2014 consumer-electronics trade show in Berlin, the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are Sony’s most stunning smartphones yet. These waterproof and dustproof devices are powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processors, running on Android 4.4 (KitKat), with mammoth 20.7 megapixel rear-facing cameras with autofocus, and 2.2 megapixel front-facing cameras.

Adding to their appeal, Sony boasts that the smartphones have the world’s first ISO 12800 sensitivity in a smartphone. This enables the capture of better photos, even in low-light conditions. And SteadyShot technology with Intelligent Active Mode helps reduce camera shake by compensating for the user’s hand movements.

Starting in November, both devices will be able to access a feature exclusive to Xperia smartphones and tablets: PS4 Remote Play, an application which allows users to play their PS4 games directly on their mobile device. They can even connect a DUALSHOCK 4 controller directly to the device using the Game Control Mount GCM10 for the ultimate mobile-gaming experience.

While both devices offer rich features, they differ in a few specifications. The flagship Xperia Z3 has a 5.2-inch Full HD display (1920x1080 pixels), with 3G of RAM, and records video in stunning 4K Ultra HD quality even underwater, while the Z3 Compact has a 4.6-inch display (1280x720 pixels), 2GB of RAM, and records video in Full HD at 1080p (yes, also underwater).

The Sony Xperia Z3 is expected to be available in white, black, silver green, and copper, with the Xperia Z3 Compact in white, black, orange, and green. Sony says both will go on sale later this fall.
