Envisioning Innovation Right before Your Eyes with the Qualcomm® Vuforia™ SDK for Digital Eyewear

Attendees at this year’s Qualcomm® Uplinq™ mobile developers conference will be among the first to see one of Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc.’s latest technology innovations take shape right before their eyes as we announce the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear. Yet another example of how Vuforia stays on the forefront of mobile vision breakthroughs, the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear brings the power of the Vuforia vision platform to a new generation of stereoscopic, “see through” digital eyewear.

Moving beyond the concept of a small screen in the corner of the user’s field of view, the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear enables the delivery of fully immersive, stereoscopic 3D content to the latest in digital eyewear, addressing some of the toughest challenges for developers of cutting-edge vision-based experiences on this new class of device.

Qualcomm Vuforia is a product of Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc

Delivering mobile content to a broad base of digital eyewear users is complicated by the fact that everyone’s eyes are different, and vision can vary greatly. To lower that hurdle, the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear includes a calibration method to provide precise eye calibration that takes into account the complex relationship between the real world, mobile camera lens, the see-through display and an individual user’s eyes. With the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear, the display of content is adjusted dynamically to the wearer’s eyes, making it easy to customize digital eyewear experiences.

But that’s not all. There’s a lot to consider in moving content from mobile devices to digital eyewear, so we made sure the digital eyewear experience would seamlessly align with the real world as users see it. The Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear also takes advantage of the power of the Vuforia platform to support the development of high-impact experiences for a wide range of commercial, educational, gaming, retail, tech support, field operations, logistics and training applications.

Developers will be able to create new hybrid VR/AR experiences on mobile solutions on the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition. By enabling augmented reality capabilities on this class of device, the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear will help drive new entertainment and educational experiences. Additionally, the SDK will help developers create new enterprise applications on see-through digital eyewear such as the Epson Moverio BT-200.

The Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear will also support the ODG R-7, a brand new digital eyewear product powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 805 processor. The Snapdragon 805 processor provides the industry-leading computer vision capabilities and power-efficient processing power required for rich computer vision-based applications like the ODG R-7.

The Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear will be available this Fall as a beta for a select group of developers. Developers can apply today for the beta program on the Vuforia website to see firsthand how the Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear can unlock eye-opening mobile vision experiences.
