Meet the Snapdragon 801 processor – powering the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2

Last week’s Mobile World Congress brought exciting announcements and news from across the mobile industry. Among the flagship phones that were announced were the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, which have something in common –- they are powered by the brand new Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 801 processor.

Samsung GALAXY S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2: both powered by Snapdragon 801 processors

The Snapdragon 801 processor is a step up from our already fast and powerful Snapdragon 800 processor, which is found in such highly desirable smartphones as the Samsung GALAXY Note 3, LG G2, Google Nexus 5, and the Nokia Lumia 1520. The Snapdragon 801 includes several new enhancements, all designed to deliver even more compelling mobile user experiences than its predecessor. Performance improvements in the Snapdragon 801 processor include a 14% faster CPU, a 28% faster GPU, a 45% faster camera sensor, 17% faster memory* – and the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 are among the first smartphones to be able to take advantage of this upgrade.

The Snapdragon 801 processor has already been called “2014’s must-have mobile chipset,” so be sure to stay tuned to see what other great smartphones and tablets will be powered by this new addition to our processor family.
