Are you a developer with a knack for developing creative and engaging apps? Do you have a passion for digital health? Enter the 2net App Developer Challenge—Qualcomm Life is offering $35,000 in prizes to the developer who creates the next “killer health app” for patients or health care professionals. Hurry, the Challenge ends October 15!

At the cusp of any major revolution, there is a moment in time when everyone begins to feel the momentum behind an inevitable change. Disruptive innovation starts to emerge rapidly from the smallest garage shops to the established industry veterans, and everyone converges toward a common purpose—to change the status quo and to never look back. Digital Health is at this tipping point.

Just a few years back, mobile phones were used mainly for voice calls, and now we have become reliant on smartphones to stay informed, entertained and connected to the world around us. And most recently, physicians and consumers alike are leveraging the power of smartphones to improve health care.

There have been numerous strides in biometric sensor technology that are catalyzing the digital health industry. Sensors from Entra Health Systems, Nonin and Bodymedia are just some examples of wireless devices that seamlessly enable biometric readings to be viewed on smartphones through self tracking dashboard apps. Innovators like MapMyFitness, RunKeeper, Noom and Macaw have found unique ways to leverage the smartphone’s sensors that transform the phone into a biometric device. And now the new entrants—AliveCor, iBGStar, Withings, iHealth and Vitadock—are becoming the accessories du jour for smartphones, transforming them into serious health tracking devices. With the proliferation of mHealth sensors and devices, the health app marketplace has grown to about 40,000 apps.

How does a new developer then create that killer health app that becomes a mainstream staple amongst smartphone users? At Qualcomm Life, we believe—and the market seems to agree—that in order for an app to be relevant to a user, it must leverage big health care data. By mashing up consumer or patient health data across multiple sensors, apps and even EMR/EHRs, an app can present users with a truly personalized view of their health. Our 2net Platform and 2net Connect API makes it all possible.

Think you can create next killer health app? Click here to enter the 2net App Developer Challenge and a chance to win $35,000 in prizes.
