First Certified Playstation Smartphone Coming Soon

In late 2010 and early 2011, mobile game enthusiasts were following stories from around the world about the development of a "playstation phone." The first public confirmation by Sony Ericsson came during the Superbowl, where a teaser ad disclosed the Xperia Play™ smartphone.

On February 13, Sony Ericsson officially announced the Xperia Play, the world’s first certified Playstation® smartphone. The Xperia Play delivers the functionality Android smartphone users need, teamed with the immersive gaming experience that any gamer would want.

So what are the key features that a mobile gamer is looking for? For the hardware design, they want dedicated gaming controls, stereo sound, console-quality graphics and mobile processing for optimal performance and battery life.

And of course, they need access to lots of games and to the games they play most frequently to be optimized for the device — along with a quick and easy gaming portal. With the Xperia Play, soon there will be a powerful smartphone that meets the needs and wants of the most demanding mobile gamer.

Helping to deliver the optimal mobile gaming experience, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset features a 1GHz CPU with an embedded Adreno GPU that provides high-end, connected 3D mobile gaming and Web browsing with minimal power consumption, so Xperia Play users can enjoy long hours of battery life and game time.

And with more than 100 Android games already optimized for Snapdragon and Adreno, mobile gaming consumers get the best mobile gaming experience on Xperia Play.

Are you a mobile gamer? An avid Android smartphone user? Are you excited about a smartphone designed and optimized for mobile game play and Playstation certified? Then the wait is just about over as the Xperia Play is slated to be available around the world beginning in March.

The U.S. will be among the first markets with Verizon Wireless to be the first U.S. carrier to offer the Xperia Play in early Spring 2011.
