Snapdragon and Jide show how Android 2-in-1 tablets can be the ultimate productivity devices

Tablets have taken on new forms of late, adopting feature sets that make them look more like modern PCs and less like ordinary slabs. Now Qualcomm Technologies is teaming up with Jide, a company known for blurring the lines between tablet and PC, to bring new meaning to the term “Android PC.”

At CES 2016 last week, Jide showed a preproduction 2-in-1 Android tablet prototype that marries Remix OS 2.0 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor as a comprehensive solution for hardware manufacturers wanting to enter into the 2-in-1 tablet arena. Jide’s Remix OS is a state-of-the-art Android-based operating system that blends the best of Android mobility with PC productivity.

When boosted by Snapdragon’s processing and graphics horsepower, Remix OS enables intuitive and fluid multitasking experiences, with resizable multi-windows, an advanced File Manager, a taskbar for easy app control, familiar PC keyboard shortcuts, and right-click mouse functions. And you get the full Microsoft Office and Google Docs experience for Android for free. So with Remix OS, you can be at your productive best.

Having access to over 1.6 million Google Play apps is pretty great too—you’re never more than a click away from your favorite apps, such as Facebook, YouTube, and Modern Combat 5. Unlike with other platforms, there is no limitation on multiple windows and resizing support—so you can run all these apps side by side. With OS and app auto-updates built in, Remix OS offers a user experience that always remains fresh. Remix OS also takes advantage of the Snapdragon processor’s support for integrated, worldwide 4G LTE connectivity, so using apps, browsing, and sharing photos is seamless.

OEMs can license Remix OS 2.0 for free from Jide. When their tablets become available to the public, they’re expected to cost a fraction of what some name brands are selling for now.

Remix OS enables the ultimate Android PC. And with the compute power and battery efficiency of Snapdragon processors, the sky is the limit for Android 2-in-1 tablets.
