And the launch of the Nexus 5X from Google, and the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL show the latest step toward this fast-connecting future, as the first US commercial smartphones to adopt Wi-Fi technology that support up-to-triple the speeds over conventional Wi-Fi.

The smartphones are powered by premium-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon processors with Qualcomm MU|EFX built in. That’s our brand of MU-MIMO (multiple-user, multiple-input multiple-output) technology: routers serve multiple devices at once, rather than one at a time, using the next-generation Wi-Fi technology. Devices need a MU-MIMO-enabled router to take advantage of the speed, so having a router that keeps up with the latest Wi-Fi standards is crucial, as The New York Times recently pointed out.
