Qualcomm Celebrates Nearly 20 Years of Korean Collaboration and Partnership at Qualcomm Partners’ Day

Research and Development Center and Venture Investment Announced

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, today is hosting its inaugural 2010 Qualcomm Partners’ Day in recognition of the cooperation and support it has received from Korea and Korean companies and to voice its commitment to continued collaboration. Korea was among the first to adopt and successfully commercialize CDMA technology, and Korean mobile handset manufacturers play a significant role in the advancement of the global wireless industry. As part of Qualcomm Partners’ Day, Qualcomm announced it will establish a research and development center in Korea and will invest in PULSUS Technologies.

In cooperation with Korean industry, academic and governmental institutions, Qualcomm’s planned R&D center will expand research collaborations with Korean organizations and focus on advances in next generation mobile communication technology. Dr. Te-Won Lee, currently a senior director with Qualcomm’s corporate R&D organization and a noted authority in audio processing and multimedia technologies, has been appointed to oversee the center.

As part of an initiative with the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE), Qualcomm also announced that Qualcomm Ventures, which invests in promising, early-stage high-technology ventures, has executed an investment agreement with PULSUS Technologies. In April 2009, Qualcomm co-hosted the Global Alliance Project Series (GAPS) with KOTRA and MKE and announced its intent to invest in Korean venture companies. PULSUS Technologies, a leading developer of digital pulse modulation amplifier (DPMA) technology chips that transform audio signals and allow them to be digitally amplified, is the first company to be selected as a part of this joint effort.

“Qualcomm’s Korean partners have made remarkable achievements in the global wireless industry and we are honored to have been a part of this important success,” said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. “We are pleased to express our gratitude to our numerous Korean partners at the 2010 Qualcomm Partners’ Day, many of whom have contributed towards the mutual development and growth of the Korean and global wireless industries.”

“Today is a very special day in Qualcomm’s history of partnership with Korean industry,” said Dr. Young Koo Cha, senior vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm Korea. “The establishment of an R&D center fosters continued cooperation as we work towards future success in a rapidly expanding mobile market. We also are excited to be investing in a pioneering Korean company and hope this support will pave the way for PULSUS Technologies to advance in the global market.”

“We look forward to the establishment of our Korea R&D center and the expansion of Qualcomm’s research partnerships in Korea,” said Matt Grob, senior vice president of engineering for Qualcomm. “Under the direction of Dr. Te-Won Lee, Qualcomm’s R&D center will leverage the expertise of Korean partners in government, academia and industry to collaborate on the next generation of mobile user solutions, with a particular focus on mobile multimedia.”
