Qualcomm's WCDMA (UMTS)/GSM/GPRS Solutions Verified with All 13 Worldwide WCDMA Infrastructure Vendors

SAN DIEGO -- November 11, 2003 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that its MSM6200™ WCDMA (UMTS) chipset solution has been tested against and was successfully validated by all 13 worldwide WCDMA (UMTS) infrastructure vendors. Qualcomm's chipset solution is the first to achieve voice, circuit and packet data interoperability with all WCDMA (UMTS) infrastructure vendors, enabling a wide range of handset manufacturers to offer wireless devices that will seamlessly operate on any WCDMA (UMTS) network in the world. Qualcomm's field-tested solutions ensure reduced time-to-market for manufacturers, while providing wireless operators with reliable products to effectively support their consumer and enterprise service offerings.

"We are continuing to drive global WCDMA (UMTS) commercialization by providing manufacturers with chipset solutions that work on all WCDMA (UMTS) networks worldwide," said David Patterson, director of product management of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "Our solutions enable our customers to provide any WCDMA (UMTS) operator in the world with devices that offer superior functionality and will perform consistently across all networks, regardless of infrastructure provider."

Qualcomm offers complete WCDMA (UMTS) solutions including the MSM6200 and MSM6250™ chipsets to support products ranging from entry-level, data-only devices to high-end, feature-rich multimedia handsets.

To enable feature-rich multimedia applications, the MSM chipsets support features of Qualcomm's Launchpad™ suite of technologies - including MPEG-4 video encoding/decoding, JPEG encoding/decoding, MP3/AAC audio decoding, a 2D/3D graphics accelerator for advanced gaming applications, a MIDI synthesizer and a digital camera interface that supports up to 2-megapixel resolution. To support assisted and standalone GPS, Qualcomm's MSM6250 solution also integrates gpsOne™ functionality, featuring SnapTrack® enhancements - enabling a wide variety of location-based services and applications, including points of interest, personal navigation and friend finder.

Qualcomm's WCDMA (UMTS) Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) solutions feature Qualcomm's radioOne™ Zero Intermediate Frequency (ZIF) architecture, which eliminates the need for Intermediate Frequency (IF) components. With radioOne technology, the MSM chipsets require less printed-circuit-board area than previous generations and reduce time-to-market development and bill of material (BOM) costs.

The MSM solutions also include Qualcomm's BREW™ system. Qualcomm's BREW system provides products and services that connect the mobile marketplace value chain, which includes application developers, publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers. The MSM chipsets are also compatible with the Java® runtime environment; the J2ME™ solution can be built entirely on the chipset's BREW software layer.
