SAN DIEGO -- April 2, 2003 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC) has been presented the 2002 "Design for Excellence" award by the Company's Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) division. This award acknowledges TSMC's significant contributions in the areas of new process development, manufacturing technology and engineering support for calendar year 2002. These contributions are instrumental in enabling QCT to bring leading edge products to market.

"As with all successful business relationships, people are the most critical factor. As our partner, TSMC has consistently provided world class resources and the innovation necessary to support QCT's design, manufacturing yield and quality requirements in a timely fashion to support our products," said Lorraine Stamoulis Surnamer, senior vice president of procurement for QCT. "This award marks the third year in a row that QCT has recognized TSMC with an award and we look forward to continuing our growing partnership in 2003 and beyond."

"While TSMC is extremely proud to accept QCT's 'Design for Excellence' award, we also recognize that meeting their high expectations would not have been possible without a strong collaborative effort between the two companies," said Rick Tsai, president and COO of TSMC. "The ability to solve tough design and manufacturing challenges and deliver innovative wireless communications products requires careful and coordinated engineering efforts on both sides. We believe that TSMC's commitment to customer service has been a key ingredient in fulfilling Qualcomm's high standards of design excellence."
