Qualcomm Demonstrates Internet Access and Packet Data Capability on the Globalstar Satellite Communications System

NEW ORLEANS -- February 28, 2000 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that it is demonstrating Internet access and packet data capability via the Globalstar Satellite Communications System at CTIA Wireless 2000. After successfully completing numerous development tests of packet data for Globalstar, Qualcomm has announced that the service will be ready for commercial field trials late this summer, followed by a phased integration available to all Globalstar Service Providers. This service will allow users in virtually any populated area in the world to communicate with their corporate data networks and access the Internet, or to send and receive email messages.

Internet access may be accomplished by connecting a Qualcomm GSP-1600 mobile phone to a laptop computer to access email and transmit information from virtually any location at data rates of up to 9600 bits per second (bps).

"Qualcomm has been conducting packet data tests over the Globalstar network through its San Diego test facility for several months, and is now demonstrating this capability to the public," said Jerry Beckwith, president of Qualcomm Wireless Systems. "These tests confirm the reliability and responsiveness of Qualcomm's continued development efforts to offer solutions, so that Globalstar can offer both voice and data applications."

The power of the Internet combined with the Globalstar system and Qualcomm's products will deliver innovative solutions that will enable people to expand their business and add value to their products while managing their assets.
