Qualcomm Promotes Phil White to President of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions

San Diego -- January 25, 1999 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the promotion of Phil White to president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions™ (QWBS). White will expand the leadership role he previously held as senior vice president and general manager to focus on a new set of products and services that will broaden Qualcomm's mobile data messaging business.

"Under Phil White's direction, QWBS has experienced a record year and continues to dominate the transportation industry with its advanced mobilewireless data systems," said Rich Sulpizio, president and chief operating officer of Qualcomm. "By leveraging its world-class technologies, innovative design and manufacturing capabilities, and unparalleled network management and customer services, Phil will lead QWBS into new markets, providing wireless data solutions for existing and new customers."

Since joining Qualcomm in 1987, White has served as division controller, vice president of finance, vice president and general manager and most recently senior vice president and general manager of QWBS formerly known as Qualcomm's OmniTRACS Division. Prior to joining Qualcomm, White held various finance management positions at M/A-Com Linkabit in San Diego, Calif. White holds two bachelor's degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition, White currently serves as chairman of the board of Corporacion Nacional Radiodeterminacion, a satellitecommunications provider in Mexico and as a board member for Alcatel Qualcomm, a joint-venture partner in Europe.
