Qualcomm Appoints Sung W. Kim as Managing Director of Korean Office

SAN DIEGO -- January 11, 1999 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the appointment of Dr. Sung W. Kim to managing director of the Company's office in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Kim will develop strategic direction and work closely with Qualcomm's Korean partners.

"Dr. Kim's expertise in international business operations, business development and strategic planning for technology-related companies in Korea will be an asset to Qualcomm's efforts in this region," said Richard Sulpizio, president and chief operating officer of Qualcomm. "Dr. Kim's established relationships in Korea and understanding of the Korean market will enable him to work effectively with our licensees and interface with governmental organizations."

Dr. Kim joins Qualcomm with more than 10 years of successful management experience with Korean companies. He brings to the position a broad range of operations, business development, marketing, and research and development experience. Dr. Kim most recently served as managing director of LG Electronics, Inc. in Seoul, Korea. In addition, Dr. Kim served as managing director of Zenith Electronics Corporation's Network Systems Division, a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, in Chicago, Ill.

"As a result of Qualcomm's work with its licensees, these companies have become leading suppliers of CDMA products. This position represents an opportunity to work within CDMA's fastest-growing market in partnership with Qualcomm's Korean customers, other businesses and the Korean government."

Dr. Kim will work closely with Jim Doh, director of sales for Qualcomm's ASIC Products Division, who will continue to be responsible for the ASIC product business in Korea.

Dr. Kim earned a bachelor's of science in mathematics at Seoul National University. In addition, he holds a master's of science in computer science, master's in business administration and a Ph.D. in management information system from the University of Minnesota.
