Redefining the future of broadband experience with the Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform

Three ways our new 10G-PON Wi-Fi 7 broadband gateway platform is redefining the broadband gateway to user-centered services platform

Almost every connected experience in the home starts with a broadband connection. Today, ultra-high speed broadband deployments are proceeding at an unprecedented pace, with two access technologies leading the way: Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). Both technologies are on the ascent because they offer the longevity, high speed/low latency performance, and flexibility of deployment for today and tomorrow’s networks demand.

Qualcomm Technologies’ leadership in 5G FWA is undeniable with our Qualcomm 5G Fixed Wireless Access Platform Gen 3 having launched as the world’s first fully-integrated 5G advanced-ready FWA and Wi-Fi 7 offering.

And today, we further solidify our leadership in next-gen broadband with the launch of the Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform. This new platform is defined by the significant addition of Fiber access to our technology portfolio, our powerful next-gen Wi-Fi 7 networking platform architecture, and a pivotal redefinition of the broadband gateway to a services-first platform centering the user experience.

Wireless-first approach to fiber

For broadband subscribers, user experience starts and stops with Wi-Fi. The majority of home users define their overall service experience through the lens of Wi-Fi. In fact, for many people “Wi-Fi" and “internet access” are synonymous.

It is only logical, then, that the foremost factor in attracting, retaining, and thrilling broadband subscribers is whether the wireless experience matches the expectation of the services being delivered by the access technology. With great speeds come great expectations, and with 10G Fiber to the home, subscriber’s expectations are sky high.

Our wireless expertise and obsessive focus on delivering amazing wireless user experience drove the definition of our new Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform in three fundamental ways:

1. Next-gen 10G Fiber access technology pairing with high-performance Wi-Fi 7 connectivity

Our Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform is architected to ensure the high-speed and low-latency potential of next gen fiber broadband is delivered seamlessly through the home.

  • 10G Passive Optical Network (PON) broadband access technology paired with expert implementation of advanced Wi-Fi 7 features include Qualcomm Multi-Link Mesh technology for superior mesh performance and our turnkey Qualcomm Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) Solution to maximize 6GHz spectrum operation.
  • Our 10G PON implementation supports interoperability with leading operator Optical Line Terminal (OLT) solutions and architecture flexibility to adapt to the operator’s unique needs and deployment types.
  • The integrated and flexible platform can be scaled to serve all service tiers with a common framework that allows carriers to quickly deploy new offerings and OEMs to offer a diverse product portfolio.

2. A user experience-first approach with Qualcomm Service Defined Wi-Fi Technology

User experience, however, runs much deeper than connectivity alone — it is application-centric. For broadband subscribers, exceptional user experience means no lag, no buffering and smooth, glitch-free operation on the apps that matter the most to them, even when serious congestion, interference and variability in application and user demand are introduced to the network.

Qualcomm Service Defined Wi-Fi technology, a ground-breaking cloud-to-device Quality of Experience framework brings an innovative approach to user experience management based on:

  • Understanding and responding to the unique profile of user applications and services,
  • Providing real-time connectivity optimizations,
  • Enhancing performance for all the devices in the home regardless of generation and type,
  • And ensuring that broadband service providers can harness these capabilities to actively orchestrate their services from end to end, from cloud to device.

3. A developer-first approach to broadband gateway services and gateway innovation

When developing the Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform, our goal was to ensure that our service provider customers and their developers had full access to the technology tools within to drive service innovation in the home, including:

  • Full programmability of the gateway through open APIs, comprehensive support for the leading middleware ecosystem, open-source platform OS and powerful on-board processing.
  • All the building blocks required to streamline development and accelerate deployment of differentiated services and value-added applications, all enabled though a unique Software Defined data path programmed through Qualcomm Service Defined Wi-Fi.

Unlocking new opportunities for service providers to engage with their subscribers

With a platform that abstracts the complexity of services provisioning, orchestration and performance monitoring, broadband service providers can easily and fully maximize the potential of the home gateway to deliver the next generation of smart home innovations:

  • Engage with their subscribers with user-centric, adaptive services that can be personalized and continuously updated.
  • Increase service assurance and unlock operational efficiencies by arming their support teams with insights into subscriber’s quality of experience.
  • Delight subscribers with superior user experience for increased customer satisfaction and retention.

At the heart of exceptional user experiences

Placing user experience at the heart of our mission, our Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform is driving a new era of broadband experience. It is built from the ground up to revolutionize next generations’ home gateways: with superior connectivity on Fiber and Wi-Fi, software-defined architecture for services innovation and delivering exceptional user experiences with Qualcomm Service Defined Wi-Fi.
