As the artificial intelligence (AI) buzz generates a new level of excitement in computing, Snapdragon is at the center of innovation, leading the way.

In recent months, the opportunities with AI have exploded and gained wide-spread familiarity. People are seeking information on the topic like never before; and individuals with no previous interest are now curious about applications (apps) and enhancements enabled with AI.

At Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., we’re enabling the future of AI with a hybrid architecture of on-device and cloud processing to deliver the most efficient and personalized capabilities to our customers. Specifically engineered to handle the intricacies of AI models, Snapdragon Compute Platforms enable users to explore and experiment with experiences previously unimaginable.

3 ways Snapdragon AI powers safer, more secure productivity

As AI models continue to advance and become pervasive in our everyday lives, it’s important to understand how data inputs are being processed, how AI can enhance user privacy, and how AI apps spark creativity and improve productivity. At Qualcomm, we’ve long been at the heart of making a more secure computing experience possible, with the help of the Hexagon Processor (aka a neural processing unit or NPU) in our Snapdragon Compute platforms. Here are three ways your Snapdragon-powered laptop keeps your data more secure with AI.

1. On-device data processing for minimized data exposure and reliance on cloud-based services

Traditionally, AI processing is reliant on sending data to remote servers for analysis, which can raise concerns about data privacy, latency, and is contingent on internet connectivity.

With on-device AI processing, sensitive data used for AI tasks — such as biometric data models that use, for example, your voice, face or other personal information — can remain locally stored and processed within the device. This reduces the risk of data breaches or unauthorized access during data transmission to remote cloud servers.

2. Enhanced video conferencing features for more control and privacy

Video conferencing features like Windows Studio Effects are made possible by the NPU inside Snapdragon compute platforms and offer another layer of control and privacy. Here, AI enables advanced privacy features such as facial recognition and biometric authentication, to enhance device security and safeguard personal information.

For example: Let’s say you take a video call from your Snapdragon-enabled PC. Together with Microsoft, it can leverage Windows Studio Effects, which can detect when users look away from the camera, potentially addressing someone or something off screen, this feature known as presence detection will automatically blur the background in response.

Plus, background blur and noise suppression features allow you to maintain control of your privacy and give you more agency over which elements in your environment are to remain private. This reduces the risk of sensitive, personal information exposure while you’re on the call. All these features come together to allow you to work and connect freely with peace of mind.

3. Layered security with software apps leveraging AI

Snapdragon compute platforms are providing next-gen security to individuals and enterprises alike with the help of our partners. By utilizing the Hexagon processor, intelligent security solutions can be delivered in real time and in an always-on capacity, utilizing the hardware-level root of trust to establish device integrity, enabling robust identity bindings.

For example: Sophos is delivering accelerated endpoint protection with intelligent threat detection leveraging the dedicated AI engine. Through on-device AI acceleration, Sophos’ AI-dependent applications optimize and run faster and more energy efficient, saving power, keeping fleets online and secure longer.

AI-enabled mobile computing, redefined

Snapdragon Compute platforms are here to help you make the most of all the innovative experiences coming from the rise in prominence of AI. With efficient AI hardware and software, as well as comprehensive software development kits, our teams are excited and will continue to collaborate with partners in bringing our customers enhanced, secure experiences.

Push the powerful limits of AI — without compromising your security — with Snapdragon Compute platforms.
