A Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound Technology first: Goertek releases Rox earbud reference design

Our recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology has generated massive excitement in the consumer electronics industry because it has the potential to transform the audio experience for music, gaming, and voice calls. To help OEMs quickly and cost-effectively design Snapdragon Sound optimized earbuds — and to meet ever-evolving and demanding next-generation use cases — Goertek announced its Rox reference design for true wireless earbuds. This is the first reference design that can support Snapdragon Sound technology and is built on the flagship Qualcomm QCC5141 Bluetooth Audio SoC, elevating the true wireless experience.

Snapdragon Sound brings together the very best audio, connectivity, and mobile innovations from Qualcomm Technologies and is designed to deliver high-resolution music, crystal-clear voice calls, and lag-free gaming — all with superior connectivity and extended battery life. This optimized chain of technologies and software supports premium sound across the audio chain, from the mobile device to wireless earbuds or headphones.

Introducing Goertek Rox with support for Snapdragon Sound

Key features of the Goertek Rox earbud reference design include:

  • Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio technology features: 24-bit 96kHz studio master grade music quality, robust connectivity to minimize audio dropouts and glitching, and latency of <90ms for lag-free gaming
  • aptX Voice audio technology designed to deliver 32kHz super wideband voice quality for crystal-clear calls
  • Support for always-on voice for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
  • Up to 5-hour battery life with Active Noise Cancellation supported (based on a 35mAh battery)

Snapdragon Sound simplifies development for optimized earbuds

Goertek collaborated with Qualcomm Technologies so that the Rox reference design can support the strict metrics for latency, voice call quality, music quality, and connectivity required to carry the Snapdragon Sound mark. In addition, Goertek will offer ANC and EQ tuning to help manufacturers reduce development time and cost. With many years of experience as an ODM for true wireless earbuds, Goertek has extensive expertise in industrial, electronic, mechanical, antenna, acoustic and software design, product testing, and final mass production. The Rox earbud reference design is now available and can be quickly scaled for high volume manufacturing. It’s another great example of how we’re helping OEMs bring premium experiences to their customers.
