Over 30 OEMs tap the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System to power their 5G products

Since Qualcomm’s inception, we’ve made big bets that inspire industries to bring their own innovations to commercialization. Our goal has always been to invent the breakthrough technologies that enable our customers and partners to compete, innovate, and grow globally.

Earlier in February, we debuted our first 5G customer premise equipment (CPE) reference design for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) products, which features the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System. In September, we followed up on this work with the debut of the Qualcomm QTM527 mmWave Antenna module, the world’s first announced fully-integrated extended-range mmWave antenna module built specifically for 5G FWA CPEs. Our 5G Modem-RF System is now positioned to revolutionize traditional broadband connectivity, providing an alternative to wired broadband that is designed to offer faster, more reliable internet service that can be quickly and economically rolled out to areas without wired internet access or offer customers in areas with internet a competitive option for high-speed internet access.

5G FWA CPE Reference Designs

Yesterday, at the Qualcomm 5G Summit in Barcelona, we along with 34 of the world’s leading device OEMs showed just how far we’ve since come in realizing the vision of 5G. The OEMs announced they’ll be incorporating the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System — the world’s most advanced 5G modem-to-antenna solution — into their CPE devices. This is significant, showing the system can satisfy the varying requirements of a wide range of designs.

At the show today, you’ll be able to see some prototypes or commercially available devices from the 34 OEMs using our 5G Modem-RF System. You’ll also be able to witness a live demonstration of our 5G FWA reference design that enables all of these products. Here’s a sample of OEMs who plan to integrate the system into their 5G FWA CPE products that will be available beginning of 2020:

The benefits of the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System

The Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system is comprised of the modem, RF transceiver, RF front-end, and antenna modules. This combination provides a comprehensive, fully-integrated modem-to-antenna 5G solution that can achieve 5G speeds of up to 7 Gbps.

The system supports virtually any combination of 5G spectrum bands and modes: sub-6 GHz and mmWave; standalone and non-standalone modes; TDD and FDD modems; and LTE and legacy modes. By providing such flexibility, we’re enabling OEMs, global mobile carriers, and Internet Service Providers to rapidly develop a diverse product portfolio for their customers. It also enables them to bring powerful 5G benefits to homes and businesses everywhere, from urban to rural communities.

At Qualcomm Technologies, we’re committed to providing our customers with technologies that will power the next generation of 5G products and services. And we’ve kept our promise: We engineered the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System to enable manufacturers to build multiple 5G mobile broadband product categories including, 5G FWA CPEs.

We’re looking forward to witnessing the innovation that will stem from the 30+ OEMs that will integrate the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System into their upcoming 5G products, and we expect even more OEMs to follow. As FWA gains traction, we’re excited to see the mobile industry embrace the technology and help further the rollout of 5G around the world.
