If you’re a true music audiophile, you appreciate a good set of headphones. If you’re playing that music from your smartphone, you should know a little something about codecs, specifically audio codecs for smartphones. Qualcomm Technologies recently released its latest family of such codecs — the Qualcomm Aqstic audio technologies, Qualcomm WCD937x family (Qualcomm WCD9370 & Qualcomm WCD9375) — designed to make music and movie audio from your smartphone sound just as the composers and creators intended: brilliant.

Like our flagship Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9341 audio codec, which measures better objectively compared to some of the best branded audio DACs out in the industry today, the WCD937x family is built on our traditional high standards of audio engineering and is designed to achieve the same stunning audio quality.

For the WCD9375, we did a little something extra… we further tweaked the audio based on the guidance given by an extremely talented group of audiophiles known as “Golden Ears.” Yes, there are people on this Earth who have certified Golden Ears. There are multiple programs available to get certified as having Golden Ears. The programs typically take years to complete.  Those with Golden Ears specialize in being able to identify and classify even the slightest distortions in music, the characteristics of different digital filters, reverb, colorization, panning, harmonics, and more.

After having Golden Ears perform extremely intensive listening to our audio codecs, we gathered and analyzed their feedback and worked in our labs side-by-side with our audio engineers and designed a digital filter to tune the WCD9375 audio codec to audiophile status.  This is the last puzzle to the ultimate listening experience.

We are not alone in recruiting the help of Golden Ears. In fact, it’s tradition among high-end audio equipment manufactures of $100,000+ speakers and amplifiers to have Golden Ears evaluate their products.  Now we’re bringing it to smartphones.

As we all know, audio quality is very subjective, even among Golden Ears. That why we designed our filters to be comprehensively customizable to suit different OEM needs and preferences to achieve their own signature sound by using their own golden ear data.

Audio — touched by gold — coming to smartphones soon

Qualcomm Aqstic WCD937x will be available in smartphones with the Snapdragon 730/730G Mobile Platform, including the Redmi K20. The WCD9341 will also support the new Golden Ear filter.

With improved audio features like Qualcomm Aqstic, your devices can do more than ever for you. They’re not only smart and able to listen under circumstances that would’ve previously been problematic, but they’re helping provide far better audio quality for virtually all your entertainment needs. the use of Golden Ears for the development of the Qualcomm Aqstic WCD937x family of audio codecs is yet another breakthrough from Qualcomm Technologies, enhancing how the world computes, connects, and communicates.
