The Qualcomm Vision Intelligence Platform powers the latest GoPro action cameras

Today we announced that GoPro is incorporating the Qualcomm Vision Intelligence Platform into two cameras from its just-announced HERO7 lineup — HERO7 Silver and HERO7 White.

What’s unique about our Vision Intelligence Platform? An integrated hardware and software architecture enables our customers to build low-power, ultra-compact devices with long lasting battery life. GoPro leveraged the Qualcomm Vision Intelligence 100 and 200 Platforms in its HERO7 Silver and HERO7 White cameras to deliver signature GoPro image quality, ruggedness and usability.

The Qualcomm Vision Intelligence Platform

The Qualcomm Vision Intelligence 100 and 200 Platforms are powered by the APQ8053 SoC, with a highly optimized CPU, GPU, and DSP designed to deliver high compute capability at low power. This heterogeneous computing allows application to utilize the full spectrum of cores within, maximizing performance and power efficiency.

The superior integration of audio, power management, and connectivity solutions accelerate product development at reduced costs. A vast set of documentation and sample code make it easier for an OEM to focus on their key differentiators and rapidly commercialize their products. OEMS can enjoy the flexibility of implementing their custom algorithms in a variety of ways to build differentiated products like GoPro cameras. In GoPro’s case, engineering teams from both organizations worked extensively to optimize the experience of the cost-effective Qualcomm chipset to deliver the tried-and-true video the brand has become known for.

The Qualcomm Vision Intelligence 100 and 200 Platforms

Nestled in the Vision Intelligence 100 and 200 Platforms are APQ8053 SoCs, which enable many of the features that make GoPro HERO7 White and Silver the best entry- and mid-level capture and share devices today. The SoCs in the HERO7 White and Silver incorporate an octa-core CPU solution that ranges from 1.8 GHz to 2.2 GHz per core, and the Qualcomm Hexagon 546 DSP and the Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU, which work in harmony, capturing true-to-life scenes in 4K30 video and 10MP wide dynamic range photos – all while being controlled by Voice Control in 14 languages.

Even in the most rugged and action-packed environments, the HERO7 Silver and HERO7 White SoCs’ dual ISPs support cutting edge Electronic Image Stabilization, designed to deliver very smooth video. This, coupled with many advanced features such as 2x Slo-Mo video, portrait orientation capture and an integrated photo timer make HERO7 the best solution yet for capturing and sharing on the go. And thanks to Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth/BLE 4.x support, photo and video content auto transfers to the GoPro App for fast and easy sharing.
