Huawei has announced a release date for its much-anticipated Huawei Watch at IFA 2015, the big electronics trade show taking place this week in Berlin. The smartwatch boasts the luxurious, timeless design and intuitive interface that wowed us back at Mobile World Congress.
The smartwatch looks much like a classic, high-end analog watch, down to its circular face; however, it’s very different under the hood. The Huawei Watch features a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, with 512 of RAM and 4GB of storage.
The Android Wear operating system provides always-on notifications from Android devices, but also from iOS devices—as of a couple days ago. It has an intuitive user interface and provides always-on text and email notifications. Users can text friends or direct the Huawei Watch with voice commands—to query Google, for example. And the smartwatch measures heart rate, calories, and steps jogged; this personal data is collected by the smartwatch’s built-in optical heart-rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, and barometer.
The Huawei Watch comes in three model colors—silver, black, and rose-gold-plated—and has leather and stainless steel band options. Cold-forged stainless steel encases the 1.4-inch AMOLED display, which is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass.
The Huawei Watch is expected to begin shipping September 17th in the US.
