Watch What’s Coming Next: Google Android Wear and Qualcomm

Earlier today Google announced Android Wear, an extension of the Android operating system for smartwatches and other wearable devices. We’re excited to share that we’ve been working behind the scenes with Google, and our OEM customers, to enable the development of a number of Android Wear-based devices that will be powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors.

Our collaboration with Google has a long history. When Google introduced its first OS, Android, Qualcomm Technologies provided hardware support from the start. The first commercial Android handset (The HTC Dream/G1) featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. So did the smartphone by Google, The Nexus One.

Qualcomm Technologies also has decades of experience designing for mobile devices that need great performance and connectivity, but also long battery life. Our highly integrated Snapdragon processors are designed from the ground up for the optimal balance of high performance and low power, ensuring that devices based on Snapdragon processors can deliver outstanding performance and user experiences while lasting longer between charges.

And we were a pioneer in wearables. Qualcomm’s Toq smartwatch, released last year, highlights the experience that the wearable category can provide. We are just at the beginning of showing how wearable devices can improve people’s lives.
