The Gimbal Context Aware Platform is Working Behind the Scenes at SXSW [VIDEO]

If you’ve ever been to the renowned SXSW conference, you know that it isn’t a single thing, but multiple interrelated festivals running concurrently. There’s a lot to see and experience. In fact, it’s almost impossible to take it all in—but great fun trying. This year, the “SXSW® GO” app for iPhone® developed by Eventbase is enabled by the Gimbal™ platform (from Qualcomm Retail Solutions, Inc.), enhancing attendee exploration of the huge number of showcases, performances, parties and events—and enabling them to get even more out of the experience.

The Gimbal context aware and proximity platform takes the mobile engagement experience to the next level. At SXSW it will enable attendees to receive relevant, timely and personalized communications sent to their mobile devices when they are out and about, moving among the conference’s varied attractions.

Gimbal proximity beacons will be in numerous locations around the various venues. These beacons, which communicate with the conference app via Bluetooth® Smart (Bluetooth low energy), provide highly accurate (within a few feet) micro-location information. If the user has opted-in to receive push notifications, she will get information and offers that are tuned, not just to the fact that she is at SXSW but to the fact that she is—in that moment—very near to something of interest.

Via Gimbal, the SXSW GO app will welcome attendees at badge pick-up, alert them when they can participate in live in-app conversations at select sessions and allow attendees to tag themselves for post-session push notifications. The mobile engagement that Gimbal enables is perfect for venues such as SXSW where attendees are highly motivated to take it all in. Check out this video about Gimbal:

We’re looking forward to SXSW. Fun and informative. Can’t beat that. Hope to see you there.
