The Uplinq 2013 mobile app for iOS and Android wasn't just a calendar of events. It included features made possible by Qualcomm’s Gimbal, AllJoyn and Vuforia SDKs. These technologies made the app come alive with experiences that could only be triggered if you were at the event. Take a look:
The event schedule had integrated Qualcomm Gimbal location technology, and it worked in conjunction with location beacons and geofences to detect your location and alerted you of events around you. For instance, if you signed up for a session and forgot to attend, the app was aware that you were not in the room and it sent you a reminder notification. Once you left, the app also triggered a session exit poll (see below).
The Uplinq conference app also served as a gateway to prizes. To encourage attendees to check out all of the new Qualcomm technologies, the app had a built-in scavenger hunt that required users to head to five different stations and perform a task with the app. Once the task was performed, it would unlock a “Scavenger Hunt Card.” With each one you unlocked, you won a prize. The Qualcomm Vuforia station featured one of the scavenger hunt cards. When you clicked on the “Vuforia” section of the “Scavenger Hunt” category within the app, it prompted you to find the Qualcomm logo (somewhere in the station.) Once you found the Qualcomm logo, you pointed your smartphone’s camera at the logo and a video began to play, unlocking the card.
The app offered a wealth of other interesting features, including the ability to view and find attendees, stream music to AllJoyn enabled speakers, and more. Sure beats those old trade show program guides!
