Samsung and Dell Unveil Windows RT Tablets, Powered by a Snapdragon S4 Processor

At IFA Berlin, Dell and Samsung have each launched a 10-inch tablet and have taken major steps in making Microsoft’s Window RT the next big thing in mobile devices. The Samsung ATIV Tab is a 10-inch tablet that falls under the company’s new “ATIV” brand and delivers a full Windows 8 experience. Likewise, Dell launched the XPS 10, a gorgeous 10-inch tablet that caters to both consumers and professionals. What garners particular attention is that both tablets are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, a fully-integrated, system-on-chip solution capable of running the gamut of Windows applications. Unlike traditional PC processors, a Snapdragon-powered tablet is designed to easily provide a full day’s worth of battery life and lasting days on standby without a battery charge.

At 10-inches, the Samsung ATIV Tab boasts one of the best-looking screens on a tablet, complete with a 1,366-by-768 resolution. In addition to an optimal viewing experience, the ATIV Tab is exquisitely thin, measuring a scant 8.9mm and weighing just 570 grams (~1.26 lbs), yet it made room for features such as USB 2.0, micro HDMI, microSD slot (up to 64MB) and front (1.9Mpxl) and rear-facing (5 Mpxl) cameras. The tablet is also equipped with the gamut of wireless connections, including Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11n WiFi Direct, NFC, and GPS. And thanks in large part to the power and battery efficiency of the 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 processor, the ATIV Tab can playback full 1080p videos while lasting all-day on a single battery charge.

Dell’s XPS brand has always stood for high performance and premium computing. Today’s launch of the XPS 10, Dell’s first Windows RT tablet, continues this time-honored tradition. The XPS 10 boasts a vibrant 10-inch multi-touch screen with enhanced viewing angles, giving it the ingredients for a fabulous multimedia experience. The accessories, however, are what give this tablet its business focus. A QWERTY keyboard dock is fully detachable, while all-day battery capability, thanks to a Snapdragon processor, will provide the intersection between work and play.
