How cool is a Snapdragon S4 Processor?

And by cool, we’re not referring to its looks.

Heat isn’t something gadget users always worry about. However, there are circumstances when a mobile device will heat up significantly, say, when you’re playing a 3D intensive game, chatting with video enabled, or watching an HD movie continuously for long periods of time. That’s when key technological advances in a mobile processor really come into play. Why is paying attention to heat important? Well, excessive heat can be damaging to components over time, especially the battery. The hotter a device gets, the more it degrades battery capacity. And, excessive heat can also degrade performance, so that a game or camera app might not run quite as smoothly.

Built on a highly energy-efficient architecture, a Snapdragon S4 processor pays careful consideration to thermal efficiency, especially when running intensive applications such as the ones mentioned above. In other words, our processor helps keep heat in check, whether it’s built into a tablet or a smartphone.

Still not convinced? The video below demonstrates three smartphones running a CPU-intensive benchmark called Dhrystone for over 20 minutes, one of which features a Snapdragon S4 processor going up against two other competitors. And to make our thermals message even more compelling, we used something that you would never think of putting on top of a phone.
