A global analysis of audio consumer behaviours and desires

This State of Sound Spotlight report compiles key findings from extensive audio research with consumers across the world. This study was conducted in summer 2024 and focused on audio use cases for compute, surveying 3500 laptop users, across 7 countries, examining audio-based activities for laptops to investigate usage, determine major pain points and understand future purchase drivers.

Key Findings

Listening to music and watching videos are top use cases for personal devices

Over 70% of respondents watch videos on their personal laptops. This is closely followed by gaming and making video calls

Laptops are used across diverse environments

While most respondents use their laptops at home, they’re also widely used in other environments including at the office, on public transport and in education and recreation settings

Wireless earbuds and headphones are used frequently

Over 1/3 of our respondents said that they use wireless earbuds or headphones with their laptops on a daily basis

Battery life is the top consideration

Battery life, comfort, and sound quality are the top 3 criteria for wireless audio devices that are used with laptops
