Qualcomm elects Dr. Francisco Ros to Board of Directors

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, today announced the election of Dr. Francisco Ros to its Board of Directors. Dr. Ros brings more than 25 years of telecommunications experience to the position and recently served as Secretary of State (vice minister) of the Government of Spain, responsible for telecommunications and the development of the information society.

Jacobs, chief executive officer and chairman of Qualcomm. “His extensive background in the European and global telecommunications industry, spanning from operator relations to the development of Spain’s IT sector, including broadband and mobile coverage, coupled with his continued involvement in wireless communications research, will be highly beneficial to our board and management.”

Dr. Ros’ longstanding career in the telecommunications industry spans a variety of roles. In his most recent position, he oversaw Spain’s complete transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television and the national IT development plan which resulted in the creation of two new public IT institutions, for which he was chairman of both: Inteco, focused on Internet security and accessibility; and Cenatic, dedicated to guiding open source software uses for public administrations. Previously, Dr. Ros served as managing director of Qualcomm Spain, where he developed key relations with Telefónica, both in Spain and Latin America. Prior to his role at Qualcomm, Dr. Ros acted as president and CEO of Unisource (a pan-European joint venture for advanced telecommunications), as well as formerly holding key positions with the Telefónica Group, most notably being general manager for Telefónica International at the time of the Company’s vast expansion into Latin America and general manager of Telefónica holding company.

Dr. Ros earned a telecommunications engineering degree and PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an advanced management degree from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE) in Madrid.
