Who says the perks aren’t good at Qualcomm?

In addition to having the opportunity to work on amazing technology with incredibly smart and talented people, the perks at Qualcomm are good, real good. A few at the top of my list include:

Perk 1: The Work-Out Facilities
When I started working at Qualcomm, one of the first things I did was cancel my gym membership. I think there are over 15 gyms in the San Diego offices, including swimming pools, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court and so many different classes. I’ve been thinking of joining the bootcamp class at lunch for over two years now... not sure it’s ever going to happen. The yoga classes are a little more my speed.

Perk 2: The Farm Stand
One of my many New Year’s resolutions is to buy local produce, just doing my small part to help the environment. Qualcomm has it’s own farmers market – HUGE PERK! The Farm Stand has been around for two years now. I can’t wait for it to re-open in April with fresh locally grown produce, flowers and other goodies.

Perk 3: Giving
Qualcomm matches employee charitable contributions one-for-one. Plus Qualcomm will match employee volunteer hours with a donation. Both of these have perks have generous match limits associated with them. I’ve taken advantage of the employee contribution match on several occasions; still have yet to take advantage of the employee volunteer donation.

Perk 4: Q Acronyms
We love acronyms, can’t seem to get enough... QCT, QLife, QGOV, QSOL, QREF, QIS, QES, QuIC. It took me a while to catch onto all the acronyms at Qualcomm, but now that I’m versed, it surely saves me time – BIG PERK for time management! Imagine how many hours I’ve saved over the past three years by speaking in acronyms instead of actually saying the long words they stand for... LOL.

I asked a few folks about their favorite Qualcomm perks. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this.

  • Casual dress, flip-flop friendly
  • Flexible schedule
  • Soda machines with free soda
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Heated swimming pool and the sauna
  • Mobile spa service – massage at lunch! Yes, we still have to pay for the services, but it’s very convenient.
  • Random free tickets to baseball games or the symphony
  • Great healthcare benefits
  • Career coach and counseling
  • Dry cleaning pick-up and drop-off
  • Qualcomm shuttle
  • The team builders are awesome
  • Qualcomm cafeteria has better food than I cook in my own kitchen
  • The network of people who work here

What other perks top your list?

Have to agree with your #1 Sara, but I would also add the cafe's. I cancelled my gym membership as well and started using the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I also started eating healthier at the cafe. Since July 2009 I'm down 45 pounds, of course none of my clothes fit anymore, but that's a good thing.

@Kranthi – Agree, innovation is our driving force and inspiration. I would say another important perk is that we have the resources needed and/or access to resources here at Qualcomm that enable us to focus on innovation, that’s a big one.

@Russell – Way to go! Maybe you can motivate me to try out the bootcamp class :)

@Raja - Summer on the Lawn is one of my faves! Great music, great people, picnic lunch and ice cream. Hard to beat.

Thanks,
Sara

Qualcomm Help save my life:

I had a horrible bicycle crash on my way to work at Qualcomm. Qualcomm insurance and medical leave helped me "recover" from my brain injury. I tried to go back to work at Qualcomm but my injury prevented me from meeting my previous job requirements. I was move to LTD (Another Qc comm bennifit). I wanted to thank Qualcomm for all of their help and support. I spend time now with the ABI (Aquired Brain Injury) program and have direct contact with others who had a brain injury. Thanks to Qualcommm I'm one of the luck ones who survived and can started my retirement a little early.

Qualcomm is a great company:
