Qualcomm Gobi 9x35 Makes First 300 Mbps LTE Advanced CA Data Call

As often said, records are meant to be broken… and as a mobile technology leader, Qualcomm Technologies is no stranger to setting new records when it comes to wireless speeds. It raised the bar in wireless yet again by achieving 300 Mbps peak download data rates on the first wideband 40 MHz carrier aggregation CA) data calls using the Gobi 9x35 chipset and Ericsson infrastructure in both San Diego and Kista, Sweden.

A quick primer on the Gobi 9x35 modem: it is the latest modem technology from Qualcomm Technologies and together with the newly announced WTR3925 RF transceiver, it represents the 4th generation of multimode LTE modems from the company.

The latest features in the Gobi 9x35 modem include wideband 40 MHz LTE Advanced CA and support for LTE Category 6 peak data rates of up to 300 Mbps, which effectively double peak downlink speeds when compared to Category 4. The Gobi 9x35 is also the first 20 nm LTE Advanced modem to be announced in the mobile industry.

Making this first 300 Mbps LTE CA data call on Ericsson’s network infrastructure shows that Gobi 9x35 can successfully inter-operate with another vendor’s network. This real-world data call is also further validation of the earlier CAT6 demonstration of Gobi 9x35 with Anritsu network test equipment and paves the way for Gobi 9x35 to lead the mobile industry to the next phase of LTE Advanced.

With the next phase of LTE Advanced, CA goes wideband (40 MHz) as compared to 20 MHz CA, which is already commercially deployed and enabled by the previous generation Qualcomm Gobi 9x25 chipset. Operators around the world are looking at not only 40 MHz CA but a multitude of LTE CA band combinations depending upon their regional LTE bands. Gobi 9x35 with the WTR3925 is designed to address this ever-increasing complexity of LTE CA.
