Snapdragon Summit 2022: Snapdragon Insider Jeff Riley (@jeffrey_jpeg on Twitter) brings you a Day 1 recap.
Hello everyone! I’m Jeff Riley — @jeffrey_jpeg on Twitter and @jeffrey.dng on Instagram. I’m here in beautiful Hawaii for the Snapdragon Summit, and I’m bringing you a recap of Day 1.
(Before I do that, though, check out this amazing Snapdragon swag that I received after I checked into the hotel.)
After unpacking a bit and settling in, I met up with some Snapdragon Insiders and other Snapdragon Summit attendees. So many cool people, so many great conversations about what makes Snapdragon tech so great. Might have stayed out a bit too late (😝), especially given how early I had to wake up this morning, but it was worth it!
Right. That’s enough about that. Snapdragon Summit, Day 1. Let’s go!
Woke up early — and a bit tired! — and met up with other Snapdragon Insiders in the hotel lobby for a quick bite to eat before heading out on a nature photography excursion to Twin Falls on the Road to Hana. What an absolutely stunning place. See for yourself:
Each Snapdragon Insider at Snapdragon Summit is tagging their favorite shots with #ShotOnSnapdragon — and you can also find some selects on the Snapdragon Instagram account (@snapdragonofficial). Scroll to your heart’s content, and leave a comment under your favorite photograph. This is my favorite from today’s adventure:
After getting back to the hotel, we scarfed down a quick lunch and headed over to the hotel’s main ballroom to watch Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon's speech at the Day 1 keynote. So cool to hear about the new collaboration with Adobe! The keynote was filled with a number of other amazing announcements. Snapdragon Sound is deepening its relationship with Bose. Samsung and Snapdragon are working together to develop a 200MP image sensor(!!!). And the biggest reveal of them all: the latest and greatest SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Honestly, I still can’t believe the level of detail — and the artistic freedom — I’m able to achieve with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so I was absolutely thrilled when Alex announced that its successor will offer even more extreme photographic capabilities. Utilizing a brand new AI powered image signal processor (ISP), Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will run an AI photo editing technique that applies custom edits to every element of a photograph as it’s taken, in real time. Just thinking about it makes my head spin — and makes me wish I had a phone equipped with the chip earlier while I was out on our big nature excursion!
Later, we got to hear from a number of Qualcomm partners, and got to see (and participate in) a number of demos too — including one dedicated solely to mobile photography 📱 + 📸 = 😍. Super exciting to get my hands on state-of-the-art tech before it hits consumer markets. (And now I really can’t wait to get a phone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.)
After the excitement of the keynote and demos, we got to hang out with Cristiano (!!!) for a photo op in front of the now famous Snapdragon surfboard.
After that, everyone headed to dinner. Excellent meal, excellent people, excellent conversation, excellent night.
That’s it for me. I hope you enjoyed this Day 1 recap, and that you’re as excited as I am for Day 2!
