Behind the Scenes: Snapdragon Insiders Game On

On March 6th, we hosted our first ever "Game On" meetup on Discord, bringing Snapdragon Insiders together for a behind-the-scenes look at mobile game development—plus plenty of gaming fun.

The event kicked off with Edwin Smith, Head of Production and Design at Feral Interactive, who shared insights into the complex process of bringing major console and PC games like GRID Legends to mobile in GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition. With over 20 years at Feral, Smith emphasized that it’s not just about scaling a game down—it’s about rethinking how players interact on mobile devices. That means optimizing for smaller screens, touch controls, and taking advantage of mobile-specific features. He also dove into the challenge of delivering smooth performance without draining battery life, explaining how developers maximize CPU and GPU efficiency.

Smith highlighted the crucial role Snapdragon® technology plays in making this possible. He spoke about early access to hardware, best practices, and Snapdragon developer tools—like Qualcomm® Adaptive Performance Engine (APE) and driver optimization support—that help fine-tune games for peak performance. While optimizing GRID Legends for devices powered by Snapdragon, Feral used these tools to identify performance bottlenecks and enhance gameplay.

After the exciting presentation, it was game time! The audience had the chance to cheer Snapdragon Insiders @Antonio_Luis and @Lexcyn on as they streamed their playing of GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition, showcasing the game’s immersive graphics and responsive controls on devices with Snapdragon. Everyone was excited to watch—the channel was full of comments cheering them on, predicting what would happen next, and congratulatory messages with winning first place.
