Berkeley Competition

Embracing Open Innovation, Orange Silicon Valley, alongside Qualcomm, explored ways to accelerate LTE Direct industry adoption by challenging UC Berkeley graduate students with a business case competition. On Friday, May 2, 2014, the three finalist teams pitched in front of a panel of six industry experts from Orange, Qualcomm, and renowned academics from UC Berkeley’s faculty at Orange’s office in San Francisco. The winning team was selected based on the overall quality of the business case and industry insights, as well as technology fit for LTE Direct. “The challenge provided valuable industry insights and unveiled actionable business models for carriers to explore. Additionally, we are excited to have strengthened the ties between Orange Silicon Valley, Qualcomm and UC Berkeley,” noted Gabriel Sidhom, who acted as a jury member in the competition.

  • Winning Team: Charles Guo, Dirk De Wit, Kiki Liu focused on a Retail Location-based Advertising Platform and offered keen insights into business models worth considering for mobile carriers.
