As we enter the 5G era, LTE will continue to provide ubiquitous coverage and essential services that complement initial 5G NR deployments, which will focus on mobile broadband use cases starting in 2019. [Read about LTE’s role in the 5G era](https://www.qualcomm.com/news/onq/2018/01/5g-nr-smartphones-are-2019-how-will-we-connect-massive-internet-things) ![](https://s7d1.scene7.com/is/image/dmqualcommprod/spectrum-sharing-02-2col-50-50-delivering-essential-services?$QC_Responsive$&fmt=png-alpha) ## Gigabit LTE brings seamless 5G mobile broadband experiences. Next-gen immersive use cases will demand not only faster, but more uniform data rates, lower latency, and more capacity that will push the boundaries of LTE networks. Now, Gigabit LTE is here to deliver fiber-like wireless broadband that meets these expanding requirements. Thanks to LAA (Licensed Assisted Access), we can reduce Gigabit LTE’s need for licensed spectrum to as little as 10 MHz by aggregating unlicensed spectrum. LAA small cells also offer co-siting opportunities to achieve significant 5G NR mmWave coverage.
