LTE Advanced Pro (3GPP Release 13+) is expanding LTE to a wide range of new industries and enabling new use cases beyond smartphones, such as automotive and IoT. It is comprised of a rich roadmap of technologies that will be submitted with 5G NR to meet IMT-2020 requirements.
As we enter the 5G era, LTE will continue to provide ubiquitous coverage and essential services that complement initial 5G NR deployments, which will focus on mobile broadband use cases starting in 2019.
Next-gen immersive use cases will demand not only faster, but more uniform data rates, lower latency, and more capacity that will push the boundaries of LTE networks. Now, Gigabit LTE is here to deliver fiber-like wireless broadband that meets these expanding requirements.
Thanks to LAA (Licensed Assisted Access), we can reduce Gigabit LTE’s need for licensed spectrum to as little as 10 MHz by aggregating unlicensed spectrum. LAA small cells also offer co-siting opportunities to achieve significant 5G NR mmWave coverage.
We are taking Gigabit LTE to new heights with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X24 modem, our third-generation Gigabit LTE modem that delivers even faster peak download speeds of up to 2 Gbps.
