V2X or vehicle-to-everything technology revolutionizes transportation safety and mobility

It all starts with real-time, direct communication that includes:

 V2V

Vehicle to vehicle

 V2I

Vehicle to road infrastructure

 V2VRU

Vehicle to vulnerable road users

Cellular network connectivity complements these time-critical communications to make entire transportation systems smarter.

Qualcomm Technologies is creating the next generation of V2X products with a unified global solution that:

Supports safety-focused solutions for road users

Sees beyond line-of-sight to accelerate reaction time of ADAS and automated vehicles

Improves mobility with real-time information

Enables services such as tolling and other secure transactions

V2X offers proactive safety alerts

V2I, V2V and V2VRU facilitate the sharing of data between road users and traffic infrastructure to provide actionable alerts. And soon, these technologies will trigger key ADAS features. V2X is important because, according to the World Health Organization (WHO):

Approximately 1.19 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes.

Between 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability.

Our V2X is purpose-built for ADAS

With the ability to “see” around corners and past obstacles, V2X technology is ideally suited as an information-rich sensor to assist ADAS features such as auto emergency braking (AEB).

V2V

Enables vehicles to send and receive information.

Critical data such as speed, position, direction, and more are exchanged to promote a safety-focused, more optimized traffic flow.

This becomes especially important near busy intersections where the ability to communicate with vehicles around corners and obstacles proves highly effective.

V2I

Facilitates real-time data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure.

Roadside units can be connected to most any device, from traffic signals to streetlights to tolling systems.

The infrastructure transmits information to roadway users about traffic conditions, signal timing, road hazards, construction and road work, pedestrians present on roadway and more.

V2VRU

Helps vehicles see vulnerable road users (VRUs).

VRUs are individuals who are at a higher risk of injury or death when involved in traffic collisions, and account for more than half of all road traffic deaths according to the World Health Organization.

They consist primarily of cyclists including e-bikes, motorcyclists, motorized scooter riders and in the future pedestrians. Direct communication between VRUs, infrastructure sensors and other vehicles helps improve the detection of hard-to-spot, often obstructed VRUs.

V2X saves time

Real-time data shared through V2V and V2I communication enables safety applications critical for future automated vehicles.

Additionally, shared information would inform speed, route and maneuvering suggestions to optimize flow, leading to less congestion, and overall improved system and personal mobility.
