Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) serves as a foundational technology for vehicles to communicate with each other and virtually everything around them. It helps provide 360º non-line-of-sight awareness and a higher level of predictability for improved road safety and a path towards autonomous driving.

Our C-V2X solutions are designed to connect vehicles to nearly everything—including vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P), and vehicle-to-cloud (V2C) communication. Qualcomm C-V2X solutions are integrated as a part of Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Automotive Platforms. Qualcomm® Aerolink™ solutions are designed to work with C-V2X as well as Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) technologies to provide security services.

V2V communication

V2V communication technologies support safety systems with non-line-of-sight and latency-sensitive collision avoidance capabilities, benefitting drivers, passengers, bikers, and others sharing the road.

V2I communication

When combined with longer-range cellular communication, road-related signage, and traffic signal phase timing, short range V2I communications can help with emissions control, reduced congestion, and variety of other safety and interactivity applications.

V2P communication

Deter anticipated, projected collisions with V2P communication. Cars with V2P will see nearby people even when other drivers can’t—and can be designed to send alerts to drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists through smartphone applications or connected wearable devices like smart watches.

V2C communication

Support cloud-based security, information, entertainment, and connected car services with V2C communication. V2C handle everything from firmware updates and security authentication to locating parking spots and securing reservations.

Improving automotive safety and paving the road to autonomous driving.

As part of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 14, C-V2X defines two transmission modes that work together to enable a broad range of use cases. Direct C-V2X, which includes V2V, V2I, and V2P communications, provides enhanced communication range and reliability in dedicated ITS 5.9 GHz spectrum, independent of a cellular network, as well as network communications (V2N) in traditional mobile broadband licensed spectrum.

C-V2X technology continues to build momentum with an unprecedented level of collaboration between the automotive and telecom industries.

Driving standards

C-V2X standards development was completed in March 2017, as was reusing established service and app layers as defined by automotive and standards communities like ETSI and SAE.

C-V2X has received broad ecosystem support from entities including the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA)—a cross-industry consortia that helps define 5G V2X communications.
