Qualcomm Technologies announced yesterday that Samsung’s new GALAXY S5 Broadband LTE-A smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 805 “4K Ultra HD” processor and Qualcomm® Gobi™ 9x35 LTE Advanced Category 6 modem. This makes the GALAXY S5 Broadband LTE-A the world’s first commercially available LTE Advanced Cat6 smartphone and the first to be powered by the Snapdragon 805 processor.

Fast Streaming and Downloads
GALAXY S5 Broadband LTE-A users can enjoy fast, connected mobile experiences, like streaming 4K Ultra HD video content, thanks in part to our fourth generation 9x35 LTE modem. It is the industry’s first commercial 20nm modem chipset and the first commercial chipset to support 40MHz LTE Advanced CA on both LTE TDD and LTE FDD duplexing modes. It also supports LTE Category 6 download speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
Users can capture their own 4K Ultra HD video content and stream it to an external HDTV. Our own Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) format delivers video post processing and video enhancements. And the mobile industry’s first commercial hardware support for HEVC (H.265) decode helps support extremely low-power HD video playback.
The Snapdragon 805 processor also supports the ability for users to take, edit and share higher quality photos in low light conditions. The world’s first commercial mobile 1GPixel/s (Giga-pixel per second) ISP (image signal processor) packs a large increase in ISP and CPP (camera postprocessor) speed and throughput, empowering users to take sharper, higher resolution photos with advanced post-processing features for low light conditions.

The GALAXY S5 Broadband LTE-A smartphone is also designed to have smooth, sharp UIs and offer console quality gaming. The new Adreno 420 GPU in the Snapdragon 805 processor is the first commercial mobile GPU to introduce hardware tessellation and geometry shaders, which provide greater detail for visually stunning, realistic scenes and objects in a manner that requires less memory bandwidth and lower power consumption.
