When it comes to having the hottest Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ powered smartphone or tablet, two years can feel like a long time to wait before your carrier lets your upgrade to a new device with special discounted pricing.
To help you get the phone you want, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon are changing their upgrade plans to shorten the amount of time you wait for your next smartphone.
T-Mobile announced a few weeks back that customers can now upgrade as soon as every six months with their new JUMP! program. And for an extra $10 a month, you can also essentially get a new phone whenever you want it or need it. The $10 fee also acts as an insurance plan, allowing you to receive a new phone in the event of malfunction or damage, in addition to upgrading twice a year. That cost is comparable to normal carrier insurance plans on other networks.
AT&T Next is a new program that gives AT&T customers the option to choose any one of their latest smartphones or tablets and only pay taxes up front without a down payment or activation fee. Customers then pay a low monthly installment every month to pay off the phone in 20 months. But if a new smartphone comes on the market that you have to have, any time after 12 months, you can trade in your device for a brand new one without upgrade fees or financing charges.
Beginning August 25th, the Verizon Edge program will allow Verizon customers to upgrade to a new phone after six months. You choose the phone you want and sign up for a month-to-month service plan and the full retail price of the phone will be divided over 24 months with each installment added to your monthly bill. Then, if you want to upgrade after six months, you pay off 50% of the full retail price of the phone and you can choose a new phone and begin again.
