Is the new Facebook Home cool, or what? In case you don’t already know, Facebook announced Facebook Home yesterday, promising the first mobile experience designed to put people, not apps, first. Facebook Home will display your friends’ latest updates on your device’s home screen, and deliver messages that reach you no matter what you’re doing. And it does it better on devices powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors.
On April 4th we announced that we’ve been working with Facebook to optimize Facebook Home and Facebook for Android across all Snapdragon powered devices. So using Facebook Home on Snapdragon based Android devices will give you better overall performance, lower power usage and better data transfer rates.
So what exactly is Facebook Home? Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg described it as a "family of apps" that make your Facebook News Feed immediately accessible.
- First there's something called "cover feed". As soon as you wake up your phone, you get a constant, fresh stream of photos and updates that you can comment on without having to launch a separate app. Notifications about a missed call, calendar reminder or new message appear right there on your home screen as well.
- With "chat heads" you're ready to send and respond not only to Facebook messages, but to your other text messages as well.
- "App Launcher" lets you access your favorite apps just as you normally would from your home screen.
All of these cool, connected features require some seriously fast connectivity and processing while at the same time using as little battery as possible. That's where Snapdragon makes a big difference. Home users will experience instant responsiveness, consistent and fast connectivity, and longer battery life on Snapdragon based Android devices.
Fortunately, we’ve made it easy for you to get your hands on Snapdragon-based Android devices. Qualcomm Snapdragon processors power many of the world’s Android 3G/4G devices, like the HTC First, the first and only smartphone built to feature Facebook Home.
