Qualcomm products mentioned within this press release are offered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has made significant progress in expanding the deployment and adoption of its Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 technology. Since Qualcomm Technologies’ launch of the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor, many of the latest flagship smartphones were equipped with the latest generation of Quick Charge, including the newly announced HTC 10. More Quick Charge-compatible devices and certified accessories are expected to be announced over the coming months. This rapid growth in the number of Quick Charge consumer devices helps demonstrate the high value this technology provides for both consumers and mobile device manufacturers.

Quick Charge 3.0 is the first of its kind to employ Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a new algorithm developed by Qualcomm Technologies, designed to allow portable devices the ability to determine what power level to request at any point in time for optimum power transfer, while maximizing efficiency. With Quick Charge 3.0, you can charge a typical phone from zero up to 80 percent in roughly 35 minutes compared to conventional mobile devices without Quick Charge. This new generation of Quick Charge is up to 27 percent faster and 45 percent more efficient than the previous version and maintains forward and backward compatibility with previous versions of Quick Charge. Like previous generations, Quick Charge 3.0 is connector agnostic, able to be implemented with USB Type-A, USB micro, USB Type-C or proprietary connectors.

Just six months after being announced, Quick Charge 3.0 already enjoys widespread adoption from original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and original design manufacturers (ODM) around the world, adding to the robust ecosystem of support for the previous implementation of Quick Charge technology. Together, more than 70 devices and 200 accessories support one of the two most recent versions of Quick Charge, with even more currently in development.

Quick Charge technology is being integrated into devices in several product categories including:

  • Smartphones such as the HTC 10, LeEco Le MAX Pro, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi 5, and more
  • Power banks from APE Technology, DBK, Elecjar, RAVPower, Voxlink, and more
  • Next generation computing platforms like HP Elite x3, the first Windows-based device to support Quick Charge

Additional product categories employing Quick Charge technology are expected to be released in 2016.

“Consumers don’t want their phones to be attached to wall outlets; therefore, we’re able to provide a lot of value by integrating the latest Qualcomm Quick Charge technology into our power banks,” said JiWei Zhu, chief executive officer, Elecjar. “We have been working closely with Qualcomm Technologies to streamline our development process, enabling ODMs and OEMs to bring Quick Charge 3.0 power banks to consumers in a cost-effective and timely manner.”

“Enterprises use PCs and mobile devices for a wide variety of power-hungry applications, requiring a large and power efficient battery,” said Michael Park, general manager and global head of mobility, HP Inc. “Adding support for Quick Charge 3.0 in the new HP Elite x3 will drive productivity and convenience for end users so they can focus on the job at hand without distraction.”

“HTC has supported Quick Charge from the beginning and will continue to do so as the technology gets better and better,” said David Chen, chief operating officer, HTC. “Fast-charging functionality is an intelligent technology that will further augment the premium experience we offer our customers, and we are excited to support it in the HTC 10.”

“We are working with Qualcomm Technologies to enable Quick Charge technology in a wider variety of mobile products, reflecting a deep desire for users to spend as little time tethered to a power source as possible,” said Gang Sun, vice president of product and business development, LeEco. “As charge time decreases, smartphone user satisfaction continues to increase.”

“LG is excited to offer Quick Charge 3.0 in our new LG G5 to further enhance the premium smartphone experience,” said Dr. Sang Kim, AVP, LG Electronics. “With faster charge time and greater efficiency, G5 customers will find themselves worrying much less as to whether their phone will get them through the workday.”

“Sunvalleytek has been supporting Quick Charge since the start in a variety of accessories under our RAVPower brand,” said Allen Fung, chief executive officer, Sunvalleytek. “We are especially proud to be the first to offer superior power banks utilizing parallel charging, a Qualcomm Technologies charging implementation that further speeds up the charge process with higher efficiency.”

“We’re happy to continue our relationship with Qualcomm Technologies and integrate Quick Charge 3.0 in our upcoming smartphones, starting with our latest flagship Mi 5,” said Wang Xiang, senior vice president, Xiaomi. “This technology truly changes the way we use our mobile devices.”

“We’ve found that as consumer demand for greater battery life increases, phone battery size continues to grow as well,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Since larger batteries naturally take longer to charge, a strong ecosystem supporting Quick Charge technology is critical to ensure the best possible user experience.”

With the rapid adoption of Quick Charge and its integration into several Snapdragon processors, Qualcomm Technologies continues to strengthen its leadership in providing a superior charging experience. In addition to a robust ecosystem of support for Quick Charge, operators and OEMs benefit from lower cost options for fast battery charging.
