Qualcomm Quick Charge Technology Powers Growing Number of Mobile Experiences

Manufacturers Adopt Quick Charge Technology for New Smartphones, Tablets and Accessories

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has made significant progress in expanding the deployment and adoption of its Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0 technology. Since Qualcomm Technologies’ launch of the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor, many of the latest flagship smartphones were equipped with the latest generation of Quick Charge, including the newly announced HTC 10. More Quick Charge-compatible devices and certified accessories are expected to be announced over the coming months. This rapid growth in the number of Quick Charge consumer devices helps demonstrate the high value this technology provides for both consumers and mobile device manufacturers.

Quick Charge 3.0 is the first of its kind to employ Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a new algorithm developed by Qualcomm Technologies, designed to allow portable devices the ability to determine what power level to request at any point in time for optimum power transfer, while maximizing efficiency. With Quick Charge 3.0, you can charge a typical phone from zero up to 80 percent in roughly 35 minutes compared to conventional mobile devices without Quick Charge. This new generation of Quick Charge is up to 27 percent faster and 45 percent more efficient than the previous version and maintains forward and backward compatibility with previous versions of Quick Charge. Like previous generations, Quick Charge 3.0 is connector agnostic, able to be implemented with USB Type-A, USB micro, USB Type-C or proprietary connectors.

Just six months after being announced, Quick Charge 3.0 already enjoys widespread adoption from original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and original design manufacturers (ODM) around the world, adding to the robust ecosystem of support for the previous implementation of Quick Charge technology. Together, more than 70 devices and 200 accessories support one of the two most recent versions of Quick Charge, with even more currently in development.

Quick Charge technology is being integrated into devices in several product categories including:

  • Smartphones such as the HTC 10, LeEco Le MAX Pro, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi 5, and more
  • Power banks from APE Technology, DBK, Elecjar, RAVPower, Voxlink, and more
  • Next generation computing platforms like HP Elite x3, the first Windows-based device to support Quick Charge

Additional product categories employing Quick Charge technology are expected to be released in 2016.
