Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced improvements to its OmniExpress™ mobile communications solution for fleet management. The enhanced OmniExpress unit features a new 7-inch color in-cab display with touchscreen keyboard, a more robust vehicle mount, and increased processing power and memory.
The new 7-inch colour in-cab display has four times the screen area of the previous model and is virtually double that of the 5-inch displays commonly in use today, making it much easier to operate. The larger display makes the OmniExpress system simpler for truck drivers to use – capable of displaying detailed navigation maps, the driver hours dashboard and a complete back-office message on the screen.
A large, touchscreen keyboard enables effortless data entry, and the vehicle mount has a stronger anchor to reduce the effects of vibration experienced in heavy trucks. The unit features increased processing power and memory for a similar price, and navigation maps are stored on flash memory to eliminate the need for a separate SD card.
Helping to bring safe, sustainable and cost-effective transport
“This upgrade to our OmniExpress system is in line with our focus on safety, sustainability and cost effectiveness, which we see as the key drivers in the transport and logistics industry today,” says Mark Warner, managing director of Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe.
OmniExpress is aimed at transport companies that want to improve their operational performance. The system helps to improve driver skills by highlighting poor driving practices, which can save up to 15 percent on fuel costs by discouraging drivers from speeding, hard braking and over-revving. It also helps increase driver efficiency by optimising routes and reducing time spent by drivers waiting to load or unload.
The OmniExpress system links to a vehicle’s FMS/CAN bus and tachograph, allowing fleets to monitor vehicle location, speed and braking activity. The data is sent across a high-speed GPRS link to a secured Web portal, which shows how vehicles are being used in real time. The Remote Tachograph Download Service automatically downloads vehicle and driver data from the digital tachograph and driver cards to the back office. This helps optimise operational efficiency by eliminating the need for vehicles to visit the office for mass memory downloads.
OmniExpress services are available via Qualcomm’s FleetVisor™ Web Portal, allowing users to access and manage data from all Qualcomm transportation services from any location through a single user interface and database.
