Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), a leading provider of integrated wireless systems, applications and services to transportation and logistics companies, and Mobileye, a technological leader in the area of crash avoidance technology, today announced the integration of Mobileye’s on-board sensor data with Qualcomm’s Critical Event Reporting application (CER). Qualcomm customer C.R. England, the nation’s largest refrigerated trucking company, is deploying the integrated solution.
Qualcomm’s Critical Event Reporting application provides driver managers visibility into critical, safety-related events, allowing them to proactively communicate with and coach drivers on safe driving habits, potentially preventing accidents before they occur. Mobileye’s advanced image sensing and processing technology detects critical events including Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning and Following Time Violations, as well as alerts the driver in the cab. Mobileye systems include a smart camera located on the inside of the vehicle’s front windshield and utilize their advanced vision technologies to detect and measure the distance to vehicles and to lane markings, providing the driver with timely alerts. By integrating data from Mobileye’s camera-based C2-170 driver assistance systems with CER, fleets can monitor additional information related to critical events as they happen and proactively manage driver behavior.

For C.R. England, keeping America’s roads safe is a key priority. “In addition to Mobileye’s real-time, in-cab information that our drivers are benefitting from, we have the ability to generate near-real time alerts and advanced reports in the back end with our Qualcomm Mobile Computing Platform, allowing us to make more informed decisions,” said Thom Pronk, C.R. England’s corporate vice president of training and safety. “The collaboration has been a true success by allowing us to achieve a significant reduction in collision-related costs.”
Qualcomm’s CER application collects data from the Mobileye system and transmits it over-the-air to the CER portal that can then be accessed by the customer. CER captures information, including speed, Hours of Service data, incident details and location data, that can help provide context around a critical event. CER also provides standard, satellite and hybrid map views, incident graphs and summary reports. This collective information gives fleet managers a comprehensive view of the incident, enabling them to use the event data for advanced analysis and reporting and to make fact-based decisions.
The Mobileye and Qualcomm integrated solution is slated for commercial launch in the second half of 2011.
