Fleet Cites Improved Operational Efficiency and Enhanced Platform Capabilities in DecisionSAN DIEGO
Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of integrated wireless systems and services to transportation and logistics companies, today announced that Nationwide Express will adopt Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform 110 (MCP110), the newest on-board fleet management system in the MCP series product line. Nationwide Express participated in trials of the new platform and noted that its selection of the MCP110 was based on the platform’s ability to help them optimize operations and reduce costs.
Nationwide Express, based in Shelby, TN, plans to adopt the solution across its entire fleet of approximately 200 trucks. An early adopter of Qualcomm’s first generation mobile information platform, OmniTRACS®, Nationwide Express is an asset-based provider of irregular route truckload services; contract equipment, drivers and maintenance; warehousing and distribution services; and land, rail, air and sea transportation services.
“MCP110’s PDF viewer, on-board tutorials and in-cab scanning and printing capability contribute to improved information sharing and operational efficiency, both of which helped solidify our decision to adopt the solution,” said David Coffey, president of Nationwide Express. “Our drivers like the new, high resolution Driver Interface Unit and, from a safety perspective, we’re very impressed with the in-motion user interface, which allows drivers to keep their eyes on the road while the tractor is moving.”
The MCP110 offers on-board driver tutorials, which are similar to the “help” function in many software programs, and are available to educate drivers on how to use the mobile applications. Additionally, the MCP110’s Driver Interface Unit (DIU110) boasts a high resolution display with vibrant colors, improving driver satisfaction with an enriched user experience.
“We are extremely pleased that Nationwide has decided to adopt the MCP110,” noted Norm Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “This platform meets the specific mobile information needs identified by Nationwide, including operational efficiency, cost reduction and safety enhancement.”
MCP110 operates using terrestrial communication, with the option to upgrade to terrestrial plus Wi-Fi communication. With Wi-Fi-enabled communication, customers can access static content on both the Internet and web-based email programs, as well as scan documents over the Wi-Fi network without paying a per page charge. Customers also can utilize Qualcomm’s Media Manager Service, which allows audio messages to be broadcasted to the fleet without an additional charge.
