MTNL, the India-based state-owned telecom services provider, and Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, have announced that they will work together on a technical audit of MTNL's 3G network aimed at enabling superior experience for MTNL's 3G services. MTNL will work with Qualcomm's Engineering Services Group (ESG), a part of Qualcomm Corporate Engineering Services, a global 3G network consulting service provider. MTNL is India's first 3G operator with commercial networks in Delhi and Mumbai. ESG, which provides engineering services expertise to 3G operators worldwide, will engage with MTNL to assess and recommend modifications in their UMTS network design and dimensioning pursuant to performance audit services. The aim is to enable MTNL to enhance overall network performance, increase network capacity and help deliver superior service quality to the end consumer.

MTNL was set up on 1st April, 1986 by the Government of India to upgrade the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, and introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India's key metros - Delhi, the political capital and Mumbai, the business capital of India. In the past 23 years, the company has taken rapid strides to emerge as India's leading and one of Asia's largest telecom operating companies. Besides having a strong financial base, MTNL has achieved a customer base of 8.0 million plus.
The company has also been in the forefront of technology induction by converting 100 percent of its telephone exchange network into the state-of-the-art digital mode.
