Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), today announced Qualcomm's new Mobile Computing Platform 200 Series (MCP200) for the European transportation and logistics market at the Transport Logistic 2009 show in Munich. A high-end, multi-mode wireless information solution, the MCP200 enables fleet managers to access crucial data about their vehicles, drivers, cargo and trailers in near real-time, thereby increasing the efficiency of back-office operations. The MCP200 will be commercially available in summer 2009 and is designed to increase transportation company revenues and customer service by enhancing in-cab productivity and improving driver training.
The MCP200 leverages the multi-mode mobile broadband capabilities enabled by Qualcomm's Gobi1000™ chipset for connectivity, and will also include a satellite version.
The MCP200 offers in-cab navigation, which can help increase driver productivity by enabling drivers to more quickly and efficiently plan their routes. Because the MCP200 has multiple data ports to connect peripherals such as a document scanner, it can also facilitate administrative tasks, document filing and sending. Text-to-speech capabilities and support for 15 languages increase ease of use and safety for the driver. A driving hours and performance dashboard helps drivers and driver managers plan their daily, weekly and monthly working time and monitor their driving patterns, resulting in optimized driving performance.
“Qualcomm is committed to delivering advanced wireless applications and services that help our transportation customers succeed and thrive during this difficult economic climate and in the face of staggering costs,” said Bill Karnazes, managing director for Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe. “The MCP200 Series is part of an end-to-end fleet management solution. When combined with the FleetVisor™ mobile communications platform, it provides additional functionality and support to drivers, while empowering back-office personnel with the right information at the right time, increasing efficiency and saving costs.”
Key features of the MCP200 include:
· Driving and working hours management and reporting
· Driver card download and over the air mass memory download of the digital tachograph
· Fuel consumption and driver behavior monitoring
· Back-office integration with TMS and payroll software
· Business reporting KPIs
· Trailer/reefer management
· 15 languages
· Robust, user-friendly computing platform with touch-screen display and sliding keyboard
