Qualcomm and Tianyu Sign 3G Subscriber Unit and Modem Card/Module License Agreement

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, and Beijing Tianyu Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. (Tianyu), a professional hi-tech company specializing in the R&D, manufacturing and marketing of mobile phones, today announced that they have entered into a subscriber unit and modem card/module license agreement (including PCB assemblies). Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Tianyu a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000® and WCDMA subscriber units and modem cards/modules. The royalties payable by Tianyu are at Qualcomm's standard worldwide rates.

“The worldwide demand for 3G products continues to grow rapidly, driven by increasing demand for mobile broadband services,” said Derek Aberle, executive vice president and president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. “With its K-Touch brand, Tianyu will now be well-positioned to provide CDMA and WCDMA 3G devices and continue its growth in Mainland China and internationally.”

Beijing Tianyu Communications Equipment Co., Ltd, founded in April 2002, is a professional high-tech company specializing in the R&D, manufacturing and marketing of mobile phones. It is one of the manufacturing companies that have obtained licenses issued by the National Development and Reform Commission of P.R.C. to produce GSM/GPRS and CDMA handsets. There are about 600 people in its Beijing R&D center, including Ph.D. and Masters Degree holders capable of conducting R&D throughout the development process starting from mobile chipsets. Tianyu has a strong sales network with 57 subsidiary offices and 653 authorized service centers and sales outlets across China. Tianyu sold 17 million handsets in 2007 and has total sales of 30 million handsets as of September 2008.
