Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced the successful conclusion of its annual BREW 2008 Conference, held May 28-30 in San Diego. This year's conference highlighted Qualcomm's initiatives aimed at enabling members of the global wireless value chain to offer compelling mobile content via any network and to any device. More than 2,500 people representing virtually every sector of the wireless industry attended BREW 2008 to learn more about Qualcomm's open and flexible approach to driving the acceleration of Web and data services, and to hear from leading global operators such as Tata Teleservices of India and Telefonica of Spain.
BREW 2008 focused on the tremendous opportunities the BREW solution offers to all tiers of the wireless value chain and on additional options for operators and content providers looking to mobilize compelling content services, many of which are enabled by the newly announced BREW Mobile Platform.
“BREW has been very successful not only for Qualcomm and our customers, but also for the wider industry and developers,” said Andrew Gilbert, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm Internet Services, MediaFLO Technologies and Qualcomm Europe. “With our recent Plaza announcement, which expands the reach of mobile and Web services, we plan to achieve our stated objective of delivering any content via any network to any device.”
“When people think about BREW, they think about many things: it's a distribution platform, it's a development environment, it's a developer community, and it really is all those things,” said Lee Daniels, vice president of consumer product development, Verizon Wireless. “BREW has enabled us to deliver products and services that are about lifestyle, and that is what our customers are interested in.”
“By working with our industry partners and leveraging Flash technology, Adobe AIR and existing Web technologies, we believe we can accelerate a vision where rich content experiences are available across devices through a consistent, ubiquitous runtime,” said Gary Kovacs, general manager, mobile and device solutions at Adobe. “We share this vision with Qualcomm and believe that the new, innovative BREW Mobile Platform, now integrated with Adobe Flash, will accelerate this opportunity for all of us.”
