Qualcomm products mentioned within this press release are offered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.
Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), today announced that Cal-Comp Electronics and Communications Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Taiwan's Kinpo Electronics Group, has chosen Qualcomm's mirasol™ displays for its latest mobile phones, which are targeted for emerging markets.
Qualcomm's mirasol displays constitute a technology breakthrough that offers substantial performance benefits over competing display technologies. Based on a reflective technology called interferometric modulation (IMOD), mirasol displays harness ambient light and require no backlighting, thereby consuming significantly less power. The reflective mirasol™ displays are viewable in almost every environment, including bright sunlight.
“In addition to manufacturing quality mobile devices, Cal-Comp is committed to the quality of the end-user experience,” said Peter Pan, vice president of the wireless and telecommunications business unit of Cal-Comp Electronics. “Commonly in emerging markets, mobile devices will serve as the primary means of communication, and so consumers will require devices that provide more battery power per charge. Qualcomm's mirasol displays will also enable users to get the most out of their handsets based on being able to see their content clearly, even in full sunlight.”
“Establishing relationships with companies such as Cal-Comp allows us strategic entry into emerging markets,” says Jim Cathey, vice president of business development for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies. “Cal-Comp's decision to incorporate mirasol displays into their product line drives differentiation while providing significant value to the end user.”
Product launch dates and retail channels will be announced at a later date. For more information about mirasol displays, visit www.mirasoldisplays.com.

About Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc.
Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. has developed the industry's first direct view MEMS display for mobile devices. mirasol displays are a true technological innovation that offers low power consumption and superb viewing quality in a wide range of environmental conditions, including bright sunlight. Based on a reflective technology, Qualcomm's mirasol displays require no backlighting and therefore consume significantly less power than standard displays in portable devices. The display works by reflecting light so that specific wavelengths interfere with each other to create color. The phenomenon that makes a butterfly's wings shimmer is the same phenomenon used in Qualcomm's mirasol displays. Using advanced MEMS technologies, mirasol displays support Qualcomm's overall innovation strategy of increasing the capability of mobile devices while minimizing power consumption. Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc. is headquartered in San Diego, Calif., with offices in San Jose, Calif. and Hsinchu, Taiwan.
