Qualcomm Licensing Agreement with TeamCast Expands MediaFLO Ecosystem

European Mobile TV OEM to Develop Modulators Supporting MediaFLO Mobile Broadcast Platform, Enabling Greater Choice in Transmission Equipment

Qualcomm products mentioned within this press release are offered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and mobile data solutions, has licensed its FLO™ modulator software to France-based TeamCast, a company that develops equipment for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) serving the mobile TV transmission industry. The agreement enables TeamCast to accelerate development of FLO-compliant modulators for mobile TV transmissions, which can then be easily integrated into third-party transmitter equipment. The licensing agreement will further expand the MediaFLO ecosystem by allowing MediaFLO technology to be deployed by global transmitter companies.
TeamCast has developed two new products in its ModulCast family of modulators that will meet the requirements of the Forward Link Only (FLO) air interface standard as specified by the FLO Forum and standardized by the Telecommunications Industry Association: the MFL-1000 and MFL-2000. The new modulators integrate the field-programmable gate array software in order to allow third-party manufacturers to develop FLO-compliant transmission equipment.
“This agreement enables transmitter companies from around the globe to participate in MediaFLO trials and commercial deployments,” said Mike Coad, vice president of partner relations, Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies. “Qualcomm is committed to the worldwide mobile broadcast industry, providing an open platform that gives ecosystem players the benefit of new revenue opportunities. We look forward to working with TeamCast, FLO Forum members and other interested companies to bring MediaFLO mobile TV products and services to the market.”
“The Modulcast product family includes a range of modules specially designed for easy integration into professional broadcast equipment, enabling fast, cost-effective deployment of MediaFLO products and services,” said Jean-Luc Pavy, CEO, TeamCast. “The open MediaFLO mobile broadcast standard is now supported by an increasing number of equipment vendors and software developers in Europe, and this agreement further enhances the ecosystem surrounding the technology.”
TeamCast designs, makes and sells innovative OEM products for the wireless communications industry, according to four markets: 1) Digital Terrestrial TV transmission; 2) Mobile TV / TV for the Handheld transmission; 3) Digital TV test & measurement; 4) Electronic TV News Gathering (D-ENG). Established nearby Rennes (western France), TeamCast has a quick growth, built on a sharp and widely recognized technical expertise in Digital TV, including the implementation of the COFDM multicarrier digital modulation. OEM products made by TeamCast are meeting the main international market standards, allowing TeamCast to export more than 75 percent of their production to Europe, Asia and North America, to one hundred main customers (equipment manufacturers, system integrators and development and test laboratories).
The Modulcast family currently includes ready-to-integrate modulators, professional receivers, up-converters and synthesizers, providing very high-performance core technologies to the broadcast market. Beyond standard products, TeamCast also offers customized products and solutions. More information about TeamCast is available at
