Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, today announced that Cargo Transporters, a North Carolina-based trucking operator, has installed Qualcomm's OmniVision™ mobile computing platform across its entire fleet. Cargo Transporters specifically chose the OmniVision system because it includes features such as a text-to-speech capability and reduced messaging costs. The OmniVision system helps fleet operators improve efficiency, better manage fleet logistics, enhance driver safety and productivity, and improve driver satisfaction and retention.
With the OmniVision system, Cargo Transporters' drivers receive the critical information they need, when they need it. A color, touch-screen display improves usability and enhances the in-cab driver experience for workflow management from dispatch to delivery. The text-to-speech capability allows drivers to safely hear and replay messages while on the road without having to look at a text display or pull over to stop and read a message. The display screen is set to blank whenever the truck is moving for improved vehicle operation safety. Future applications, such as an in-cab navigation service, will give drivers turn-by-turn directions on truck-approved routes, eliminating the need to read directions or maps while driving. These features not only improve driver efficiency, but also reduce unsafe driver distraction and alleviate driver frustration.
“We're thrilled with our new OmniVision system,” said John Pope, CEO of Cargo Transporters. “We upgraded to OmniVision because of the enhanced safety features such as the text-to-speech capability. OmniVision delivers tangible, useful tools to our drivers.”
Cargo Transporters is currently using Qualcomm's SensorTRACS® performance monitoring and Automated Arrival and Departure Services with the OmniVision platform. In addition, Qualcomm's T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS™ asset management system is currently installed on all of Cargo Transporters' trailers to help them improve trailer utilization, workforce productivity and freight security. The T2™ system is fully interoperable with the OmniVision platform.
Cargo Transporters previously used Qualcomm's OmniTRACS® mobile communications system throughout Cargo Transporters' fleet but opted to implement the new OmniVision system across its entire fleet after the OmniVision system release in October 2006. The OmniVision system is available exclusively from Qualcomm. For more information, please call 1-800-348-7227 or visit www.jillknowsOmniVision.com.
