This collaboration provides utilities with a solution that enhances communication and automates the dispatch and completion of service orders and work orders by their workforces in the field. It also provides continued service during storms and events where terrestrial-based service typically becomes unavailable.

The combined OmniTRACS system and Daffron & Associates' iXp software provides utilities and their field crews with improved visibility into schedules and tasks to help increase worker productivity, reduce fuel costs and minimize manual data entry. Utility companies with field service operations in rural areas where cellular coverage is poor can benefit greatly from this solution, and the more than 160 utilities that currently use Daffron's software applications can leverage this integrated suite to offer better efficiency, productivity and improved customer service to their valued customers.
Utilities also benefit from improved safety and security for their crews, especially during major storms and other emergencies that can strain or shut down commercial communication systems. The Qualcomm and Daffron solution features two-way messaging and mapping and location, providing crews with details about their vehicles, even when radio or cellular systems fail.
This solution also helps assure compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reporting requirements during times of disaster. During a major disaster, such as last year's Hurricane Katrina, field crews must record the types of equipment, time and materials that are used to repair damages and provide the information to FEMA for reimbursement. Since many utilities did not implement this program before last year's hurricanes or were unable to communicate with their back offices during the disaster, hundreds of thousands of dollars were not reimbursed. With this integrated solution, communicating and recording information is simple, even during a major disaster.
